Ian Ong: Zone V Camera Club’s Newly Inducted Member
Please tell us about yourself: your family, your work, your hobbies and other interests.
I am Ian Ong. People often say I live in my own world (may sariling mundo), which makes sense as I’m an introvert. I’m the eldest of four siblings. My work revolves around anything related to computers, from software development (full-stack) to systems integration, administration, and security. As for my hobbies, aside from photography, I enjoy sports such as cycling, bowling, badminton, tennis, golf, and recently, I’ve returned to playing pickleball, which I had somewhat given up so I could find time to learn golf.
Share with us some thoughts on your ZVCC Probee experience.
It was tough and fun at the same time. Tough because I really wanted to win a trophy and initially thought I knew enough about photography to get one, but as it turned out, I just knew a lot about the technicalities of it. I still have a lot to learn about taking photos that evoke emotion and/or tell a story. As for the fun part, I absolutely enjoy out-of-town shoots (OTS) as I like to explore and go on adventures. I often forget it’s a photo contest and usually go beyond the shooting boundaries. :P
What type of movies and music do you enjoy?
I enjoy watching sci-fi movies. As for music, I’m an eclectic listener, so I listen to kpop, rock, edm, etc., etc.
What is the most memorable lesson you learned from your parents?
I learned many lessons from my eccentric folks, but the ones that relate to photography the most are to stay curious, be bold, push the boundaries, and embrace adventure.
Would you rather be a jack-of-all trades or a master of one?
I want to be master-of-all trades! Hahaha!
What is your favorite thing about yourself?
My ability to romanticize mundane tasks, take for instance, the simple act of mixing a cup of coffee, I do it as if I’m concocting a sophisticated chemical solution in a high-tech lab. :P
If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Pizza! I can eat pizza everyday for the rest of my life!
What three items would you take with you on a deserted island?
Sunscreen, sunglasses and a satellite phone with solar charging capability.
