Mike Olivares

Architect by profession. Mixologist, audiophile, hard core biker, coffee barista by passion-

Oh and interesting trivia- Mike also dabbled in acting. He came out in a TV series with Ricky Dabao and Richard Gomez… so don’t believe him when he says he cannot host – or dance!

Mike is indeed a gentleman of many talents…

He was first introduced into photography in 1977, when his mom also got into it. Although the interest was sparked, he delved deeper into it seven years later when he got his first NIKON, the D70. It would take another 4 years, in 2008, when he would start to shoot more earnestly – and yes, more seriously. Landscape and street were the genres he gravitated to. Eventually, claiming to be the introvert, he found himself more drawn to the meditative aspects of photography – minimalist abstracts, black and whites, the calm. I have actually seen this in action, when shooting alongside him, he will survey the place, think, plan then shoot 3-5 frames then rest and wait for the rest of us. Whilst the norm is shoot, shoot, shoot and hope for a winning capture, Mike is a deliberate, intelligent, technical artist.

I would like to add that apart from landscape, Mike is a sensei of still life photography and lighting. He artfully animates the inanimate. His lighting is ever so subtle, his editing skills, near flawless. Paging Z academy Czar…

My friend of 30 or so years, a true renaissance man and a true asset to Zone Five. Congratulations, Mike!! Welcome to the Club!
