2012 Board and New Officers

On November 10, 2011; Zone V Camera Club members elected a new set of officers for 2012 after our last competition which was Hong Kong OTS.

All regular members nominated and elected 14 of their peers or regular member in good standing within the club.

As 2011 President; Allan Florendo is automatically nominated and elected as an ex-officio board member.

Argyle Camacho retained his previous position as club secretary and 2012 Vice-President

David Lim was voted as club treasurer

Butch Cruz and Negz Nagranza were voted to be contest committee chairman and co-chairman respectively

2012 board decided to add judges committee to help recruit and screen judges for our monthly competition/contest and the program committee for various club activities like Christmas party, March club anniversary month, etc. and also to ensure that the monthly contest/meeting is exciting.

Congratulations to Zone V’s Treasurer and past president, Mario Babiera, for being awarded as an Outstanding Iliganon! His works in photography has been recognized by the Iliganon sa Manila, Inc. during it’s annual gathering last September 11, 2010. With him is Iligan City Mayor, Lawrence Cruz.

Mario is the man behind Photosynthesis and Fiera de Manila.

New Canon Stuff!

Canon 60D

Canon announces the new 60D. Upon seeing DPreview’s preview, here are some notable differences from it’s predecessor, the 50D.

It shoots video.
Higher resolution at 17.9MP from 15.1MP (though this is really not that much)
Uses SD cards instead of CF.
Articulated LCD panel (i just hope they built it strong enough)
Higher ISO (up to 12800)
Polycarbonate resin with glass fibre on aluminum chassis body instead of magnesium alloy
Slower and fewer image buffer

For me, the articulated LCD is the best addition to the 60D as this opens up newer possibilities to your compositions. However, it still uses the same processor (DIGIC 4) the 50D uses. I’m not sure how it manages to improve high ISO performance with the same hardware.

Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6L IS USM

I’m hoping that this really lives up to Canon’s claim of being an affordable L grade telephoto lens. About only the same size as the 70-300mm IS USM, this is a very enticing upgrade. Read more at DPreview.

Leica Abandons Film Cameras

The world’s premiere maker of top quality rangefinders and lenses finally ceases production of film cameras. “There isn’t enough demand for film cameras,” states Andreas Kaufmann, Leica’s majority owner. This is really a big blow to a number of purists who have been supporting the brand for decades. It also doesn’t help that prices of second-hand film Leicas have been dropping in recent years. According to Kaufmann, they will just focus on developing their digital line and venture into manufacturing lens for movie cameras. I sure hope they factor in 3D lenses in their lens line up.

R.I.P. Fuji Sensia and Kodachrome

Kodak and Fuji retires the Kodachrome and Fujichrome Sensia respectively. As more and more photographers are switching to digital cameras, the demand for both films have significantly dropped. Short of a memorial, I’d like to share some iconic photos taken with these films.

Use Nikon Lenses on Canon Bodies

Novoflex, Germanyʼs premier manufacturer of quality digital and analog accessories, announces the availability of a new lens adapter to mount all Nikon lenses, including the G series, to any Canon EOS mount camera body.

The new adapter is made to very precise and high standards to ensure exact infinity focus on the Canon camera. With the EOS/NIK-NT adapter automatic exposure metering via stop-down metering is possible as is aperture priority auto exposure. The new adapter features a lever on the side of the adapter to let users control the aperture on G series lenses.
