New Canon Stuff!

Canon 60D

Canon announces the new 60D. Upon seeing DPreview’s preview, here are some notable differences from it’s predecessor, the 50D.

  1. It shoots video.
  2. Higher resolution at 17.9MP from 15.1MP (though this is really not that much)
  3. Uses SD cards instead of CF.
  4. Articulated LCD panel (i just hope they built it strong enough)
  5. Higher ISO (up to 12800)
  6. Polycarbonate resin with glass fibre on aluminum chassis body instead of magnesium alloy
  7. Slower and fewer image buffer

For me, the articulated LCD is the best addition to the 60D as this opens up newer possibilities to your compositions. However, it still uses the same processor (DIGIC 4) the 50D uses. I’m not sure how it manages to improve high ISO performance with the same hardware.

Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6L IS USM

I’m hoping that this really lives up to Canon’s claim of being an affordable L grade telephoto lens. About only the same size as the 70-300mm IS USM, this is a very enticing upgrade. Read more at DPreview.
