The Zone Five Camera Club Gets Back In Your Face:  Abstractions in Photographic Details

June 17 to 19, Graphic and Photo-Video Expo
SMX, SM Mall of Asia

In early 2005, the Zone Five Camera Club launched an exhibit titled “In Your Face.” At that time, the exhibit was a break from the conventional themes that were getting common. It marked the start of conceptually oriented exhibits by Zone Five and opened the doors to more experimentation.

Five years ago at the Katha gallery at the Glorietta 3, “In Your Face” showcased macro photography in a manner not normally seen. Avoiding the conventional flower and insect shots, the exhibit stressed abstract images. The concept then, and again this year, was to make the viewers wonder exactly what they were looking at. The “in your face” claim does not stem from any attitude on the part of the photographer. It comes from the idea that one would have to place the subject of the image right into one’s face in order to see it in the same manner as it is presented in the images.

The ordinary objects encountered daily take on a new meaning, a new look when viewed up close. There is an abstract beauty that may be extracted from day to day objects seen from a different perspective. The Zone Five Camera Club wants to reveal this world not normally noticed. Zone Five wants to get right back in your face. They hope you don’t mind.
